Cost-effective Return to Office with Microsoft Teams and Pexip

When COVID turned the world upside down, many organizations had to hard pivot to a remote-work strategy—and fast. A large Canadian gold mining customer was no exception. Since Microsoft Teams was included in their existing Microsoft Office license, it was easy and low-cost for everyone to use on their personal devices. They liked the platform so much that they decided to continue using it in their shared collaboration spaces once it was safe to return to their office again.

However, this solution did not translate well to the existing infrastructure in their meeting spaces, as their legacy Cisco equipment was causing migration issues. When faced with an expensive and time-consuming company-wide hardware upgrade across 55 video conferencing systems, ET Group stepped in with a better solution: interoperability.

See what we did
  • Simplified migration to Microsoft Teams

This client had identified that they could cut costs by using a platform they already had—Microsoft Teams, but they needed to get it up-and-running quickly. By implementing interoperability, we gained the flexibility to leverage their existing endpoints to enable their new platform in no time.

  • Cost savings and extended technology life-cycle

By leveraging their 55 existing Cisco video conferencing systems and endpoints, we eliminated the need for this client to redesign and replace all of their meeting rooms, increasing the ROI and lifespan of their equipment.

  • Increased flexibility and productivity

Interoperability also offers this client the capability to access meeting features native to Microsoft Teams from their Cisco environment, and provides One-Touch Join, allowing their team to connect to meetings faster.

  • Universal remote and in-office experience

Whether their team members are joining a meeting from their personal device, or any of their shared meeting rooms, interoperability ensures an equal experience for all participants with a consistent interface and user controls.

What we did for this client:

Pexip Infinity for quick Microsoft Teams enablement

By implementing Infinity by Pexip, a Cloud Video Interoperability solution, this client can now join or host Microsoft Teams meetings easily. Pexip Infinity is a self-hosted and virtualized multipoint conferencing platform, meaning it connects the client's existing SIP and/or H.323 endpoints to cloud-hosted Teams meetings without relying on hardware. This allows users to experience the platform as if they were in a native Microsoft Teams Room, regardless of their existing room system.

Integration with existing Cisco infrastructure

This client's meeting rooms were full of legacy Cisco gear, and they were stressed about how much the suspected necessary upgrades across 55 rooms were going to cost. However, Pexip Infinity was able to leverage their existing decade-old Cisco video conferencing system's endpoints, allowing us to avoid the expensive hardware upgrades, and even bring new life back into some rooms they had already stopped using because they were "outdated" and "unusable".

Consistent device and room experience

Pexip's intuitive interface with Microsoft Teams and available features are universal across their meeting rooms, and equal to the same experience their team members enjoy when remotely joining calls from their personal devices. Both experiences offer enhanced audio and visual capabilities, as well as content-sharing and in-call reactions.
